Your NetID does need to be affiliated with ECE groups; but, for the vast majority of users, that happens automatically.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead1\">Please see <a href=\"\/computing\/faq\/do-i-need-an-ece-account\/\">https:\/\/peden.ece.uw.edu\/computing\/faq\/do-i-need-an-ece-account\/<\/a> for more information.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Getting a UW NetID<\/h2>\n<p>The University of Washington&#8217;s web pages are the best source of information on UW NetIDs. <a href=\"https:\/\/itconnect.uw.edu\/security\/uw-netids\/about-uw-netids\/\">For more information, please read UW&#8217;s &#8220;About UW NetIDs&#8221; page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Employees: Faculty, Staff, Visitors, Post-docs, and Others<\/h2>\n<p>Once your appointment has been processed and entered into the UW payroll system, our Payroll Manager will be given a special code (by UW, not by ECE Computing) that will let you create your UW NetID. Please work with the appropriate person to get your appointment processed in a timely manner. Faculty and visitor appointments are handled by the Assistant to the Chair; staff appointments by the Department Administrator; and other appointments will be handled by your sponsor.<\/p>\n<h2>Students<\/h2>\n<p>Typically, student access to ECE resources happens automatically. The only time that we&#8217;re aware this doesn&#8217;t occur is when an ECE class also offers a section in another department (e.g. EE \/ MSE 486). When a non-ECE student registers for that non-ECE section, they do not get included in the automated groups we rely on.<\/p>\n<p>If this happens to you, please email <a href=\"mailto:help@ece.uw.edu\">help@ece.uw.edu<\/a> and let us know what class you&#8217;re taking and who the instructor is.
