It give you the same capabilities as <a href=\"https:\/\/peden.ece.uw.edu\/computing\/linux-lab-remote-access-vnc\/\">VNC<\/a>, but is simpler, more responsive, and more secure.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>RDP will not work if your account is over the disk quota.<\/p>\n<h3>I. Make Sure You Have the Software<\/h3>\n<p>You will need the following software on your computer to connect remotely to one of our Linux lab machines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itconnect.uw.edu\/connect\/uw-networks\/about-husky-onnet\/\"><strong>Husky OnNet<\/strong><\/a>. Unless you are physically in the ECE building and using a wired ethernet connection, you will <strong>not<\/strong> be able to connect remotely to RDP on our Linux machines without Husky OnNet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>An RDP client.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>On Windows 11, use the built-in Remote Desktop app.<\/li>\n<li>On a Mac, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/windows-app\/id1295203466?mt=12\">download the (poorly-named) Windows App.app from the App Store<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On Linux, one popular client that we know works is <a href=\"https:\/\/remmina.org\/\">Remmina<\/a> &#8211; but there are many others. We recommend installing using your distribution&#8217;s package manager (e.g. dnf, apt) to install whatever client they make available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"start\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>II. Connect to Husky OnNet<\/h3>\n<p>Launch the application and select \u201cUW Campus Network Traffic Only\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>(If you happen to be on a wired connection in the ECE building, you can skip this step)<\/p>\n<h3>III. Start your RDP session<\/h3>\n<p>In the examples below, <strong>linux-lab-132.ece.uw.edu<\/strong> is being used (and the example user&#8217;s NetID is <em>ecetestuser1<\/em>, aka &#8220;ECE IT Test Account 1&#8221;). The images are from a Mac, but if you&#8217;re running Windows things should work similarly.<\/p>\n<p>1.
