Award recipients represent exceptional achievements; embody UW ECE core values such as leadership, collaboration, and teamwork; and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Application Awards:<\/h4>\n<h2>Yang Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student Award<\/h2>\n<p>Recognizes a\u00a0<strong>UW ECE doctoral student<\/strong>\u00a0who has conducted outstanding research in the field of electrical engineering, as evidenced by their publications or recognized by outside researchers in their field.<\/p>\n<p>This award is open to all UW ECE doctoral students who are in good academic standing with the University of Washington.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p><b>Application Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>CV<\/li>\n<li>Personal Statement ( 3 pages max) addressing your research work, its potential applications and impact, and your reason and interest in pursuing this area of research.<\/li>\n<li>Most recent transcript<\/li>\n<li>2 letters of recommendation, 1 must be faculty or industry supervisor able to speak directly to research work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>Additional materials are welcome to demonstrate work and experience, but the amount of additional documentation used for determination will be up to the discretion of the awards committee based on number of applications and bandwidth.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Determination Criteria<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>Number and quality of publications.<\/li>\n<li>Including role in publication and number of citations<\/li>\n<li>recognition \/ response of publications<\/li>\n<li>Quality and quantity of research experience.<\/li>\n<li>Impact of research<\/li>\n<li>Innovation of research<\/li>\n<li>Research professionalism and abilities as determined by letters of recommendation and presentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications closed for 2025<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Vikram Jandhyala and Suja Vaidyanathan Endowed Innovation\u00a0Award<\/h2>\n<p>Recognizes a UW ECE student who has demonstrated entrepreneurial potential.\u00a0The award was founded by former EE department chair and professor Vikram Jandhyala, who was the UW Vice Provost for Innovation and Executive Director of CoMotion, UW\u2019s collaborative innovation and technology transfer hub, and his wife, Suja Vaidyanathan, an EE alum (BSEE \u201997).<\/p>\n<p>This award is open to all UW ECE undergraduate and graduate students who are in good academic standing with the University of Washington<\/p>\n<p><b>Application requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>CV<\/li>\n<li>Personal Statement\u00a0 ( 3 pages max) addressing your entrepreneurial work, its potential applications and impact, and your reason and interest in pursuing this area.<\/li>\n<li>Business Plan for your existing or developing business venture<\/li>\n<li>2 letters of recommendation, 1 must be able to speak directly to entrepreneurial work<\/li>\n<li>Most recent transcript<\/li>\n<li><i>Additional materials are welcome to demonstrate work and experience, but the amount of additional documentation used for determination will be up to the discretion of the awards committee based on number of applications and bandwidth.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Determination Criteria<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>Quality and impact of the student\u2019s entrepreneurial work.\n<ul>\n<li>Scalability<\/li>\n<li>Patents or potential for future patents<\/li>\n<li>Does this fill a gap\/need in the industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How well does work align with ECE skill sets and scope<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate professionalism and abilities as determined by letters of recommendation and finalist interview<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Applications closed for 2025<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Nomination Awards:<\/h4>\n<h2>Outstanding Mentorship Award<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognizes a\u00a0<strong>student, faculty, staff member, alumnus or industry partner<\/strong>\u00a0who has provided exemplary mentorship to students, especially in the area of\u00a0<strong>diversity, equity and inclusion.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdNb8LyKmZy5hN6rQCrxkTaZeFqjLbHD4K2VnjEQqflKC2e7Q\/viewform\">Nominations<\/a>\u00a0may be submitted by faculty, staff, or students.
