They are hosted by a faculty member and are generally 2-days. They include:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Seminar<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Chair<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Dean (determine specifics from new Dean)<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Chair of (or representative from) the Search Committee<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Graduate Students<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Faculty in other departments (if relevant)<\/li>\n<li>Dinner meeting<\/li>\n<li>Lunch meeting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">The Search committee (in consultation with the Chair) determines which candidate(s) to bring to the faculty\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>Faculty Votes on the appointment and graduate faculty appointment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Chair writes letter to the Dean with description of search and selection procedures, faculty vote, and the individuals file information along with a second choice of candidate\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>For appointments that will be higher than the assistant professor level the chair requests review by COE P&amp;T committee before appointment proceeds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">The Dean reviews and approves the offer<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Chair discusses options for start-up package and other specifics, with COE<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">The Chair talks to candidate about tentative offer\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>The Chair ascertains his or her citizenship\/permanent residency status\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Citizens\/non permanent resident \u2013 Chair needs to review the H-1B Non immigrant status and U.S. Permanent Residency. Chair needs to contact the <a href=\"http:\/\/ap.washington.edu\/ahr\/administrators\/international-scholars\/\">International Student &amp; Scholars<\/a> to start the permanent residency process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Chair asks if<span class=\"style3\"> there is a need for partner accommodation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">The Chair drafts an <a class=\"style3\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/acadpers\/procedures\/search_and_hire\/offer_letter.html\">offer letter<\/a> &amp; notifies the Dean upon receipt of acceptance or rejection of offer.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Department sends copy of letter of acceptance and a summary of the terms of offer to the Dean.\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>Upon receipt of the acceptance letter, the New Faculty Checklist is started.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Department sends new faculty member the forms needed to complete the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/acadpers\/procedures\/search_and_hire\/checklist.html\"><span class=\"style3\">new appointment packet<\/span><\/a> and the <a class=\"style3\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/purchasing\/moving\/\">moving expense packet<\/a>\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>If the candidate is not a citizen or permanent resident, the department instructs the candidate to secure a social security number before beginning employment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Department sends letters to <a class=\"style3\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/acadpers\/procedures\/search_and_hire\/unsuccessful_letter.html\">unsuccessful candidates<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Department prepares <a class=\"style3\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/acadpers\/procedures\/search_and_hire\/checklist.html\">appointment packet<\/a> and sends to the Dean&#8217;s office, including promotion and tenure committee information if needed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Dean\u2019s office reviews the appointment packet for completeness, the Dean writes a letter of recommendation, then forwards it on to Academic Human Resources<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">Academic Human resources checks for completeness of materials\n<ul class=\"style3\">\n<li>Information regarding faculty appointments of non-citizen non-permanent residents is sent to the International Student &amp; Scholars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\"><span class=\"style3\">The Equal Opportunity Office reviews the packet for complian<\/span>ce with various laws and regulations<\/li>\n<li class=\"style3\">After approval by Regents, Academic Human Resources, on behalf of the President&#8217;s Office, notifies the Dean and candidate.
