To be employed as a Student Assistant Hourly, the minimum UW enrollment requirements must be met. In general, these appointments are for those who are not Work Study, or do not fall into an ASE job classification category.
How to Hire
- Determine the following parameters of the appointment:
- Start/end dates
- Budget number(s)
- Estimated number of hours to work per week (see student work schedule limitations on UW HR website)
- Name of prospective hire if applicable
- Pay rate – (see wage determination for more information on UW HR website)
- Name of supervisor
- Develop a job description that provides a position description, the required skills needed to perform the job, and minimum qualifications.
- If hourly pay rate is greater than the pay range provided on the Student Pay Schedule, fill out Student Exception to Pay Form.
- Send items 1-3 to the Payroll Manager. When sending the job description form, state whether or not you already have a student in mind to hire.
- Interview applicant(s) and select a candidate.
- If the Student Assistant you wish to hire has never been on UW payroll, send contact information of new employee to Payroll Manager. A time to meet to complete new hire paperwork must be arranged with the Payroll Manager BEFORE the employment start date.
