The ECE department no longer maintains a separate ECE account infrastructure. Your NetID does need to be affiliated with ECE groups; but, for the vast majority of users, that happens automatically.
Please see https://peden.ece.uw.edu/computing/faq/do-i-need-an-ece-account/ for more information.
Getting a UW NetID
The University of Washington’s web pages are the best source of information on UW NetIDs. For more information, please read UW’s “About UW NetIDs” page.
Employees: Faculty, Staff, Visitors, Post-docs, and Others
Once your appointment has been processed and entered into the UW payroll system, our Payroll Manager will be given a special code (by UW, not by ECE Computing) that will let you create your UW NetID. Please work with the appropriate person to get your appointment processed in a timely manner. Faculty and visitor appointments are handled by the Assistant to the Chair; staff appointments by the Department Administrator; and other appointments will be handled by your sponsor.
Students
Typically, student access to ECE resources happens automatically. The only time that we’re aware this doesn’t occur is when an ECE class also offers a section in another department (e.g. EE / MSE 486). When a non-ECE student registers for that non-ECE section, they do not get included in the automated groups we rely on.
If this happens to you, please email help@ece.uw.edu and let us know what class you’re taking and who the instructor is. As soon as we confirm your enrollment in the class, we can set up your ECE access manually.
