Linux Lab “Potential Security Breach” Warnings
Students who have used the Linux Lab prior to this quarter may see a warning about a “potential security breach”, and a notice that the host key has changed, when they ssh into a Linux Lab machine. This is because we did a major OS update (CentOS 7 -> AlmaLinux 8) over the summer, which resulted in new host keys being generated for all Linux Lab machines.
It is safe to let your computer accept and store the new key.
New Students and “ECE Computer Accounts”
If you are registered for an EE or ECE course, your NetID should get registered with our computing systems automatically. You should be able to connect to ECE computing systems (like the Windows and Linux Labs) already.
If you run into issues when you try to log into one of the departmental machines, please email help@ece.uw.edu – preferably from your UW email (since we need to know your NetID). If this is specific to something you need to do for a class, it’s helpful if you tell us the class number and who the instructor is. Thanks!
If you notice any computer issues, or need assistance from the ECE IT team, please email help@ece.uw.edu
